NASA Academy U10 Girls @ Metro North Park: Spring 2012 practice schedule Day Location Time Tuesday MNP field 4 5:00 - 6:15 PM Thursday MNP field 4 (starting Feb. 16) 5:00 - 6:15 PM
6:25 - 7:00 PM: optional GK training
(GK starts March 15)Friday (starting Feb. 17) see Friday link see Friday link
Spring game schedule: We'll play a local pre-season tournament the weekend of February 18-19. Regular weekly games start in March. We'll wrap up with the NASA Friendship Cup tournament in late May. Most games are on Saturdays. Sunday game-days and tournaments are listed in italic print.
We play multiple games each weekend, with each girl usually playing one game. There may be some days when we ask for volunteers to play two games, or what we call "DH" (double-header) duty. Tournaments call for two games on Saturday, one or two on Sunday.
Team rosters change from week to week. We assign and post team rosters on our Academy web site each Monday night prior to the weekend games. So if game times are listed as "9:00 - 12:00," you'll know on Monday night whether your daughter is in a 9:00, 10:30 or 12:00 game. As game times and match-ups are confirmed each week, you can click on the date entry to link to specific rosters and schedules for that date.
Schedule conflicts: Please let us know as early as possible about any game-day schedule conflicts. We can work around most conflicts as long as we know about them a week ahead of time.

Academy tryouts: Tryout dates for next year's U10 and U11 Academy programs are Tuesday, May 29th through Friday, June 1st. Check our tryouts page for schedule specifics.
Empoli FC soccer camp (optional): NASA is once again hosting a camp from the Italian club Empoli FC. The camp runs June 25-29 at Metro North Park. This is an optional event that's not part of our regular Academy program, but it should be an excellent opportunity for players to experience training from a different set of coaches. Link: camp information
Summer Academy camp (for all U10 through U12 Academy players):
July 16-20, 2012: Girls Academies @ United Quest Park, 9 AM - 3 PM
If your daughter has a schedule conflict with her home park's Academy camp, she can attend the Academy camp at the other park instead.
Academy tryouts - Tuesday, May 31st through Thursday, June 2nd: All current Academy players are invited to return for the 2011-2012 soccer year without being required to tryout. But if you're in town, we'd like you to attend tryouts to help provide a high level of competition for next year's prospects. Girls who are age 9 or younger as of July 31st, 2011 attend the U10 tryouts. Girls who are age 10 as of July 31st attend the U11 tryouts. Link: tryout details

Winter break: We take a winter break during December and January. We may have an occasional informal (and optional) kick-around during the winter break. If so, we'll send a notice via e-mail and also post it on the home page of our Academy web site. If we do schedule a kick-around, the event is totally optional and will typically just consist of scrimmage games.
Academy Winter Work-outs: If your daughter would like to keep up with regular training during the winter break, NASA offers the Academy Winter Work-outs program during December and January. This program takes place indoors. These sessions will be run by Eric Ritter, Girls Director of Coaching, and will focus on the technical aspects of the game (passing, receiving, dribbling, finishing) and how to apply them in game situations. Link: Academy winter work-outs
Playing at home: Some girls prefer informal off-season play on their own schedule. Girls can arrange a small group of friends or play on their own. For small groups, the girls could get together once or twice a week to play, rotating between each girl's yard. The girls can decide what they will do, or the host girl can create the day's activity list. If you're looking for ideas, we've come up with a wide variety of "play at home" activities, most with video demos, covering games for pairs or small groups of players, plus lots of different solo fast footwork, dribbling, passing, receiving and juggling activities. Link: full catalog of videos
Outside the box: If your daughter wants to put her soccer ball away for a while but stay active, basketball and dance are good options. The body movement of both relates well to soccer (agility and balance are important in all), and the basic tactics in basketball are similar to those in soccer.
